What was your first reaction on being awarded a Lok Sabha ticket from Chandni Chowk?
It was a pleasant surprise for me. However I am happy because I have an opportunity now to defeat a Congress heavy weight like Kapil Sibbal and one former media star turned politician Ashutosh from the Aam Aadmi Party.
For the Chandni Chowk seat, Muslims are in a majority. Don’t you think it will be a challenge for you as a BJP candidate?
For me it’s like going back home. I was born and brought up at the Turkman Gate area which falls in this constituency. I treat every citizen as a human and not as a member of any particular community. I have several childhood friends here. I’ve played on the lap of Muslims in my area. My entire school education was completed from this area. I am on very familiar ground.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal denied you the chance to become chief minister. Do you think he may play spoil sport for Modi too?
Kejriwal has cheated the by making false promises. He should contest Lok Sabha election from his Karambhumi- Delhi, as people of Delhi have witnessed his style of governance in 49 days. The exodus of prominent faces from AAP shows that people have now identified the real face of AAP. They have deceived each and every voter of the city and have done nothing.
Don’t you think the BJP’s campaign this time has moved very slowly?
No. We are working at the grass roots level. We have formed committees at booth level. 11,763 booth level committees are functional, besides 2,800 block level, 278 ward level, 70 assembly and seven Lok Sabha level committees. We have also formed teams to reach out various interest groups and associations in the city like women, youth, doctors, traders, villagers and auto unions.
What is your strategy in these elections?
Our campaign is to project Narendra Modi as the most credible leader in the country. Besides we are also focusing on a door to door campaign. Besides, local issues of that particular area issues will also be highlighted along with national ones.
If you do become a MP, will BJP change their CM candidate for Delhi?
This isn’t a question at this particular point of time. We are mainly focused on giving all seven LS seats of the city to our party so that Modi Ji becomes the next prime minister. The question of chief ministership will be decided when the time comes.
What is your campaign plan for Chandni Chowk?
I never contested any election with anxieties. I work for the people. I ask for their support and work towards development. I will file my nomination on 21 March and start campaigning on 22 March from my birth place at Tehliyan Gate near Turkman Gate.
