You are the only woman candidate from the BJP in Delhi. What are your plans for women empowerment in Delhi?
Women are considered as a source of power. They bring life on this earth, they contribute more than 80 percent to the agriculture sector and they perform wherever they are given equal opportunity. We should ensure their security and equal opportunity. They are more than capable of taking over reins, once such a platform is set.
What has been your contribution to women empowerment so far?
As an advocate I worked for the permanent commission of women in the armed forces and also worked on the drafting committee for women reservation bill. I recently launched a Raksha Mobile Application which alerts the relatives of women at the time of crisis and gives them their exact location. Besides I have been working for the rights of women and underprivileged section since my college days and also as a lawyer
Don’t you think there would have been more women candidates from BJP?
I hate it if you’d say that I was given ticket for being a woman. I was given ticket for being a capable and efficient leader of my party. I hope more educated and capable women will be trusted in future.
What are the major issues in your constituency?
Urbanisation is the main challenge in the New Delhi constituency, as people living in areas don’t have drinking water and live in hellish condition. The backyards of bungalows in Lutyens’ zone contain slums. Approximately 31 slums exist in this area only. People don’t have basic facilities of water, toilets, and houses.
What will be your priorities if you are elected as MP of New Delhi?
I will focus on infrastructure development in the area and providing basic civic amenities to people particularly to slums and unauthorised colonies. New Delhi area has a lot of job opportunities in service sector for which I will focus on skill development of youths so that they could trap better opportunities.
What are your main national issues in this election?
I think country is facing two serious issues, namely national security and unemployment. We will address them on priority basis when Modi becomes the next prime minister of the country. Besides price rise and tackling terrorism, infrastructure development is also part of our main agenda.
How do you view the challenge of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, as they had won seven out of 10 assembly segments in your area?
People regret voting for AAP in the Delhi assembly elections. They have deceived voters by leaving them at the mercy of Congress after lambasting them during their campaign. People now realise that AAP is not interested in working for them. They are here just to protect the interests of Congress. AAP is a front for the Congress. Their campaign should be aptly termed, ‘Save Congress Project’.
How do you see the challenge posed by two-time MP Ajay Maken?
He too is facing strong anti-incumbency as he could not deliver on any of his earlier promises. He is repeating those old promises again. People say Maken never came to their area after being elected. There is strong dislike and anti-incumbency against both AAP and Congress among the people.
What will be your main responsibility at Lok Sabha?
I will be a strong voice for women issues and advocate for their rights in Parliament. I will fight for the causes of youths and the urban poor.
AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal says that BJP will bring Wall Mart in retail sector?
He is an absolute liar. Our stand is very clear on FDI. We are against FDI in retail. He is working to serve the interests of CIA and Ford Foundation. He is an absconder. He took leave from his job to do research to get dollars from America and is now on leave from chief ministership of Delhi to serve the interests of Congress party. But he has now exposed himself.
Rahul Gandhi says that BJP’s Modi campaign will burst as the Shining India campaign did.
He hasn’t understood the issues of this country but speaks from what is spoon fed to him. Congress is frustrated with its imminent defeat and people have already made their mind to make Narendra Modi the next prime minister of India.
