To help dispel the sense of fear among students inspired by recent cases of crimes on campus and discuss other things, the general body of Jawaharlal Nehru University held a meeting on Wednesday, that started at 6.30 pm and carried on till late night.  Students flocked to the Kendriya Vidyalaya ground to listen to the discussions.

Abhishek Srivastav, a P.hd student at JNU said, 'The recent spurt in crimes on campus has scared the students. This meeting was conducted to bring back a sense of confidence in them.' The meeting also touched upon other routine problems on campus.' I am demanding that the Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH) be depoliticised,’ said one student.
On 31 July, a JNU student attacked one of  his fellow students with a cleaver, before killing himself. They had allegedly been in a relationship.

On Sunday evening, another student allegedly slapped and molested a girl on campus. The two had reportedly been in a relationship.

Srivastav added, 'It’s shocking and unacceptable'. 'We as students demand the formation of counselling units for the safety of students to share each others problems, because we feel that counselling is the best way forward. There should also be a series of student-teacher meetings to discuss the issue'.
