Infighting puts Nangloi Jat decision on hold as BJP declares second list of election candidates

Update: 2013-11-13 23:46 GMT
The severe infighting in the BJP forced the party to put on hold its decision to nominate a candidate from Nangloi Jat assembly segment on Tuesday. According to sources, stiff protest by North Delhi mayor Azad Singh, who is demanding the Mundka seat back for the family and protest from his nephew and son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, Pravesh Verma, over Mehrauli seat led the party to defer the decision.

In its second list released late on Tuesday night, the BJP has decided candidates for seven seats, thereby leaving the candidature on Nangloi Jat seat undecided. With the decision to field former Delhi mayor Rajni Abbi from Timarpur, BJP has now fielded six women candidates in this election. Senior councillors and standing committee chairman of North DMC, Ram Kishan Singhal, has also been awarded ticket from Adarsh Nagar. The party thus has now given tickets to eight sitting councillors — five from North DMC and three from South DMC, but none of the councillors from East DMC have been given a ticket this time.

Dheer Singh Bihduri who has been given ticket from Okhla is the first Hindu candidate who has been trusted by the party since the constitution of Delhi assembly in 1993. The party has also obliged Jagdish Pradhan from Mustafabad who joined the BJP after leaving Congress five years back. The party has fielded three leaders — Ram Bir Singh, Dheer Singh and Pradhan who left Congress to join BJP.
