Gurgaon Police launch unique identified commuters’ database

The Gurgaon police in association with Nagarro and various corporate bodies have launched a unique identified commuters’ database to work on the issue of travelling and pollution control.

The various corporate companies collectively having more than 100,000 employees in Delhi-NCR have come up with the idea of bus-pooling system. These companies see the value in moving beyond carpooling between individuals to possible bus pooling between clusters of companies, or at least providing data to private or public bus operators to optimise their routes.

“The basic idea is by sharing information on our commuting needs (by locations, shift timings etc.), the commuters can collaboratively create CNG bus routes that are not just viable but optimised – with minimum last mile distance for our employees, fewer stops along the way, and possibly a greater frequency allowing some flexibility in travel timings,” a Nagarro spokesperson said.

“Amenities like security guards or GPS trackers and route information etc will all be there. It is just the initial phase of launching a huge initiative thereby pooling in close to 10,000 people,” said Navdeep Singh Virk, the Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon. This open commuting database will help the corporate bodies to jointly plan their office transport efficiently by replacing office cabs and individual cars with CNG buses. Any other public transport planning authority or private bus provider can also use the database to see where the opportunity lies for the introduction of new routes and to reduce the number of cars on road significantly.

The approach to maintain sanctity of this data is that there is only de-identified data into the database – with all sensitive information like name, precise address, etc. replaced with the general location. The de-identification will be done at the participating company itself using a provided utility service.
