Goel ‘accepts’ party decision after hard bargain

Update: 2013-10-24 23:34 GMT
Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel ‘accepted’ Harshvardhan as the party’s chief ministerial candidate only after a hard bargain. According to sources in the BJP, he has been assured of a position in the centre if the party comes to power in 2014.

‘I welcome the decision to project Harshvardhan as chief ministerial candidate of the party in upcoming assembly poll. We will fight unitedly to defeat the Congress and relieve the people of Delhi from the 15-years misrule of Sheila Dikshit,’ said Goel. He further added, ‘I am going to work hard to ensure our victory,’ He also described himself as a ‘disciplined soldier’.

However, the senior leaders of the party had to reportedly work hard to convince Goel on  Harshvardhan’s candidature. ‘Goel’s point was that he worked hard to organise the party but someone else has been awarded. He also tried to project his “clean” as a ground for being nominated,’ said a senior leader. But as majority of the members of central parliamentary board were in favour of Harshvardhan, he was nominated.  The leaders assured him of a union ministry berth if the party comes to power in 2014. According to sources, Goel will contest parliamentary election in 2014 from Chandni Chowk.

Millennium Post on 22 August had first reported the development, ‘Vardhan for chief minister, Goel for Chandni Chowk’.
