Girls outshine boys in ICSE, ISC exam

The results of Indian Certificate for Secondary Education (ICSE) Class X and Indian School Certificate (ISC) Class XII for 2012 were declared at 3 pm on Saturday.

The ICSE exams were held between 27 February and 29 March, and ISC exams were held between 13 February and 3 April.

Ghaziabad girl Shriya Talwar from Holy Child School topped the ICSE exam with 97.60 per cent and Nidhi Singh, from Scotia High International School, Gurgaon, topped the ISC exam.

Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of ICSE and ISC, congratulated all candidates who have passed the examinations.

Arathoon said, 'In all, 29 schools in NCR opted for the ICSE exam and 2,199 students appeared for it. Among them, 1,223 were boys and 1,212 passed.

As many as 976 girls appeared for the exam and 971 passed. In all, the pass percentage was 99.27, 0.55 per cent  more than last year.'

In NCR, 17 schools opted for ISC examination and 850 students appeared for it. Among them,  405  were boys and 399 passed the exam. In the exam, 445  girls appeared and 439 passed.

The pass percentage for ISC was 98.59 per cent, 0.18 per cent up from last year.

Arathoon said  girls fared better than boys in both ICSE and ISC exam.

The ICSE examination is conducted in 65 subjects, of which 23 are in Indian languages and 13 are foreign languages. ISC exam is conducted with 14 in Indian and six in foreign languages.
