Ggn traffic tower’s server down for over a month

Update: 2016-01-13 23:43 GMT
This is the third time in a year’s time when the Traffic Tower is facing a problem with the server. The server in the challan department of the traffic tower of the city has been down since December 2015.

According to the information received from the officials of the challan department, more than 45,000 challans have been pending as they are not able to update it online in their system.

Earlier in 2015, the same issue with the server had come up twice and was resolved in a few days. But this time, it’s been over a month that the problem with the server continues to exist.

“This is the usual problem that the department often faces. We are working on this problem and the officials have forwarded the complaint to the DIG, hope it will be solved soon,” said Hawa Singh, ACP.

The 45,000 pending challans were issued in the month of December and close to 20,000 challans have been issued in January this year till now.

Out of the total 65,000 challans issued from December 2015 till now, around 45,000 challans are pending, which is creating a problem for the offenders to pay their fines.

Sources also revealed that the department has been using the old server since 2007 and every time when the server faces a problem, the software engineers upgrade its RAM.

Last time when the server went down in October 2015, they had upgraded the RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB.

Another thing that came as a surprise was, that the system was sent to Chandigarh to get fixed and replaced, but in reality it was not fixed.

A major reason behind such laxities is the frequent change of DCP and the ACP rank officials. In the last one year, three DCPs have been appointed.

The officials also said that close to 50 offenders come to pay the fine every day, but since the server is working slow, not all the fines are paid.

According to the information received from the challan department, around 20 vehicles have been impounded by the traffic department and around 1,000 RC’s and licenses have been seized since December 2015, which will be returned once the fines are paid and the challans are updated online in the system.
