For party’s sake! Manoj Shokeen willing to change assembly seat

Update: 2013-11-11 23:59 GMT
‘I am a true soldier of the party and ready to shift to Nangloi Jat if the party gives me a ticket from there,’ Shokeen told Millennium Post when asked about his candidature from Mundka.

Shokeen, a resident of Nangloi Jat constituency area was fielded by the party from Mundka assembly segment in 2008, home seat of former Delhi chief minister and strong Jat leader Sahib Singh Verma. Shokeen won the election by a margin of 4,897 votes by defeating Prem Chander of Congress.

Verma’s son Pravesh Verma and his younger brother Azad Singh were denied the tickets to prevent ‘dynastic politics’ in BJP.

Azad Singh, the current mayor of North DMC, was demanding the party to give the seat back to his family. He wanted the party to either field him or Verma’s son Pravesh Verma from Mundka.

The party, however, fielded Pravesh Verma from Mehrauli assembly segment, which caused protest at both seats. At Mundka, Azad Singh is leading the protest against Shokeen while in Mehrauli, Pravesh Veram is facing stiff protest from Sher Singh Dagar, who lost the 2008 assembly election from Mehrauli by just 1,108 votes and was seeking a ticket again this time. ‘The panchayat called on Sunday decided to boycott Shokeen. I will not campaign for the BJP and sit at home, working in my agricultural fields till next one month,’ said Singh who was very active in the entire North and Outer Districts before tickets were announced.

According to senior party workers, if the BJP shifts Shokeen to Nangloi Jat and Pravesh Verma to Mundka it can emerge stronger on over one dozen seats where majority voters are villagers.

Party insiders claim that by a mere reshuffle of some exiting candidates, for which they have apparently agreed, the party can quell protests significantly and save at least three assembly seats.
