Baldeep Singh of Prayag United SC and Jagpreet Singh of East Bengal, two of India’s top flight football clubs based here, have been accused along with two accomplices of allegedly raping a 14-year old girl. The police arrested Jagpreet and his cook Ravi Singh on Tuesday night while Baldeep and Joseph Singh, the fourth accused, were absconding. A sub-divisional court remanded Jagpreet and Ravi to 14 days’ judicial custody on Wednesday.

‘We have terminated Baldeep’s contract. Till he’s proven innocent, his contract remains null and void,’ United SC director Nawab Bhattacharya said. East Bengal contested the allegations, saying Jagpeet was with the team for its I-League match against Pune FC at the time when the alleged incidence took place.
