Debutant actor Yuvraj Vijan made his entry into Bollywood with none other than a film headlined by Alia Bhatt and directed by the talented Vasan Bala. Vijan, who played Tony Bhatia in Alia and Vedang Raina-starrer ‘Jigra’, is happy that the film has found its audience on OTT. Despite growing up in a business family with expectations to join his family enterprise, he chose to follow his passion for acting. Excerpts from a chat:

You made your debut as Tony Bhatia in Alia Bhatt-starrer ‘Jigra’. How did the offer come your way?

I started auditioning in 2022. Somehow, I came across an audition call for a project on ‘Instagram’. Even though I was unaware of the project, I sent my profile and I later learnt it was a ‘Dharma Productions’ movie directed by Vasan sir. They wanted me to audition. Initially, I auditioned for Ankur’s character (later played by Vedang). Honestly, I wasn’t really happy with how the audition went. But a week later, I was informed that they’d like to audition me for another character in the movie. I wanted to get selected at any cost. That’s how I landed the role of Tony Bhatia in ‘Jigra’.

Not many newcomers get the golden opportunity to debut in a film directed by Vasan Bala and starring the talented Alia Bhatt. As a newcomer, it must have given your career a boost.

Definitely, it has. Getting to debut in a film starring Alia ma’am with Vasan sir is nothing less than a dream for a newcomer. I’m really grateful that I got this opportunity.

How was it shooting with Alia Bhatt?

I think she’s great both as a person and as an actress. We all know how talented she is as an actress. On set with her, I realised how well she delivered each scene with precision. That’s something we, as newcomers, take as a learning experience. As a person too, she’s very sweet, humble and respectful to everyone.

Most of the scenes in the movie are with Vedang Raina. Are you still friends with him?

We are colleagues and share a great bond. We run into each other occasionally. Whenever we meet, we discuss things. Now he’s busy with work and hopefully, I’ll also get busy soon.

What kind of projects do you aspire to be part of?

My priority is a good story with a strong character. But I’d love to do a rom-com. After ‘Jigra’, I’ve also realised that action movies are also fun to do.
