The polling officer will also hand over a thank you note and a feedback form to every voter at these polling stations.

‘We will provide tokens to voters to avoid standing in queues for long periods. Further, sofas and chairs will also be placed for senior citizens, pregnant ladies and needy people,’ said Vijay Dev, chief electoral officer (CEO) of Delhi. ‘These polling stations will be designed to create awareness among voters and also encourage them to vote. We are also making arrangement of “priority voting” for pregnant ladies, lactating women, senior citizens and patients,’ added Dev. These polling stations will be selected on the basis of availability of space in the area and width of the road to ensure better traffic movement. The CEO office has already started making a list of such polling stations in east assembly seat which can be transformed into model polling stations.

‘We will put queue guards in place of ropes for better queue management. If the queue becomes too long, the voters will be provided tokens and seated in the tent erected nearby,’ said Ankur Garg, chief nodal officer of CEO office adding that the proposal has been sent to Election Commission of India for approval.

‘At these model polling stations, the entire staff will be in uniforms — jackets having logos of ECI and CEO Delhi printed over it,’ he added. In addition to that well designed signage, better lighting, better furniture, better quality compartments and proper decoration will also be done as per the proposal. ‘Besides, these voter friendly initiatives we will also put a small exhibition at model polling stations displaying EVM models, old EVMs and pictures of eminent personalities casting votes,’ said Garg.
