The minister has also demanded weightage of five marks for students passing their XII from Delhi in 28 colleges of Delhi University funded by the Delhi government.
“The students of other states get more marks due to various reasons. One of them recently emerged in the form of topper scams in Bihar and Gujarat. The good students of Delhi have to suffer due to such scams,” wrote Sisodia on Saturday pressing for an entrance test in DU.
“It’s injustice against the students who pass their XII from Delhi. They are more talented but do not get admission in prestigious DU colleges due to faulty admission process,” added Sisodia. Arguing in favour of the entrance test at UG level, Sisodia said that the proposed system would give equal opportunities to the students of all the states.
“There are 28 colleges of DU in which Delhi government expends Rs 300 crore from its Budget. Therefore, the students passing their XII from Delhi schools should be given a weightage of five marks to ensure preference,” demanded Sisodia. He also argued that the preference to Delhi students should be implemented from the current session.
Interestingly, the AAP and BJP seems on the same page on the issue as former Delhi BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP has been demanding entrance test in UG admissions of DU on the same reasons mentioned by Sisodia after emergence of Bihar topper scam.
Beside these, Goel has been demanding 85 per cent reservation in 18 DU colleges for Delhi students which receive 100 per cent financial support from the Delhi government. This demand is on the pattern used from several states to prefer students of their states.
“There should be five percent weightage in the cut-off for students passing XII from Delhi and opening of new colleges besides increasing capacity of existing colleges,” said Goel. He had recently met Sisodia on the issue.
