In a bid to generate revenue from Airport Metro Express, Delhi Metro is all set to give out commercial spaces (1,626 square meters) on lease at Shivaji Stadium Metro station for commercial activities.
“With this step, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will earn sustainable additional revenue, on the other hand it is facilitating the commuters by providing one stop-solution for their needs,” said a DMRC officials on the condition of anonymity. Shivaji Stadium is an underground Metro station of the Delhi Airport Metro Express Line. The station is in close proximity to Connaught Place, New Delhi Railway Station, Janpath etc and is easily accessible by road from entire Delhi. The said area has prominent and spacious frontage and captive commuter base. This said area, owing to its strategic location, shall present a unique opportunity for office space / retail players / business houses etc. “The Airport Express Line is in for profit-making process and with such initiative, it will certainly earn more revenue by its non-operational resources,” said the official. DMRC’s Airport Express Line had recorded about 30 per cent rise in its ridership, following the fare reduction of up to 40 in July 2014.
DMRC has also taken a slew of measures to attract commuters to the line, operations of which it took over from Reliance Infrastructure in July 2013, a spokesperson said.
