Delhi Metro is all set to provide better connectivity for the National Capital Region (NCR) commuters in the coming year. The new Metro routes coming up in the city before the end of 2016 will ease commuting between faraway areas in the NCR.

The Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar line, Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden line, Dwarka–Najafgarh line, Mundka–Bahadurgarh line will be completed till December 2016, while Central secretariat-Kashmere Gate line be completed in March 2016.

“After DMRC Phase-III work is finished till the end of 2016, the Delhi Metro will provide better connectivity to faraway areas such as Badli, Bawana, Najafgarh, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Noida and some landmarks and important destinations like the IGI Airport domestic terminal and the Red Fort besides major city hospitals,” said a DMRC spokesperson.

A total of seven segments are to be constructed on six corridors in the Phase-III project. These segments include Majlis Park–Shiv Vihar, Janakpuri West–Botanical Garden, Central Secretariat–Kashmere Gate, Jahangirpuri– Badli, Badarpur–YMCA Chowk Faridabad, Dwarka–Najafgarh and Mundka–Bahadurgarh.

“There were some issues related to land acquisition in some areas, but the work is running on schedule. The Delhi Metro will meet its deadline of December 2016,” the spokesperson added.

The DMRC opened the ITO station in August 2015. Lakhs of travellers along the congested Ring Road and Outer Ring Road were immensely benefitted from the Phase-III project.

Delhi Metro, which is known to be Delhi’s lifeline, is used by around 2.5 million people daily. Unfortunately, recent frequent technical glitches made life miserable for the commuters in year 2015. Despite being praised for its commendable services, series of technical snags and delay in the ongoing projects has raised serious questions over the functioning of the DMRC.
