Binny, a former AAP MLA from Laxmi Nagar had developed serious differences with Arvind Kejriwal and Sisodia and left the party and is now pitted against the former Delhi education minister.
On the other hand, the Congress has stepped up its campaign and is attempting to make its presence felt in the Jat dominated villages of Patparganj. Congress’s Anil Chaudhary is leaving no stone unturned to make the contest triangular. Cast polarization in favor of any candidate may spring surprises.
When Rohit Sharma, a resident of East Vinod Nagar was asked for which party the voters are going to tilt he said that: “We are still waiting for the manifesto of parties and what they will do for Delhi and especially for our constituency. The AAP, Congress and BJP all these parties had won this seat earlier but nothing has changed here. I am just following wait and watch policy. But I will make sure to give my vote for a stable government.”
The constituency covers Indraprastha Extension, Mayur Vihar I and II, DDA flats, Mandavali, Vinod Nagar and Patparganj. People living in the area are facing lack of basic civic amenities like absence of proper sewer lines, garbage cleaning mechanism and lack of clean drinking water. AAP candidate Manish Sisodia has promised that his party “will provide basic amenities to people in the area.”
“There is a need to address issues of sewers, garbage and the lack of clean drinking water here and once we will be in power, we will work on these issues,” he said. AAP has promised that it will also modernize the street lights and improve the condition of parks. BJP leader Vinod Kumar Binny too is concerned about the development of the Patparganj assembly constituency.
“The sewers are the biggest issue here. Roads are in poor condition. The drains remain dirty for many days,” he said.
However Congress’ Chaudhary blames both BJP and AAP for the halting development process of Delhi. The two-time MLA from the area was however a distant third with 23.21 per cent votes in the last Delhi assembly election.
Sisodia had wrested this seat with 41.52 per cent while BJP’s Nakul Bhardwaj polled 32.04 percent
votes. The constituency covers a mixed demography of villages, slums, unauthorized colonies and apartments in Patparganj.
