But, it has come to light that Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) has not published its annual magazine for the past ten years even after charging fee from the students.
As mentioned in the college prospectus, every year Rs 20 is charged from students against magazine fee. But sources from SOL have informed that no magazine has been published in past ten years. ‘Every year Rs 20 is taken for magazine from students. But no magazine has been published or issued to students since 2003,’ the source revealed.
Over one lakh students are admitted to SOL every year. If sources’ claims are to be believed, Rs 20 lakh is collected by SOL every year but no magazine has been distributed till date.
A professor at SOL for the past 20 years, on the condition of anonymity said, ‘I have hardly seen SOL’s magazine. There is no cultural or literary activity for students at SOL. Though the development fund is taken from students but where is the development?,’ the professor asked.
Meanwhile, Chander Shekhar Dubey, director of SOL have blamed the teachers for not coming out with the magazine. ‘The teachers should have published the magazine in all these years. I wonder why haven’t they done it yet’ he added.
The source also questioned the provision of getting the identity cards printed by students itself. ‘From this year, students have to get their identity card printed, which are available online only. However, Rs 15 is charged from students for the same. Why is money being taken when identity cards are not even provided?,’ the source asked.
Pritam Kumar, a student of SOL said they have to suffer at the hands of SOL. ‘Not all students have access to computer and internet. Most of the students in SOL come from economically-weaker section. This puts an additional burden on their pocket’, he complained.
Apart from the financial loopholes that have come to light. The SOL is also criticised for late results. ‘The students face many problem in terms of getting a job or admission into some institution due to delayed results by SOL’, Pritam added.
