Delhi University V-C rolls out another online course, professors in the dark
In the release given by DU Registrar, it said “The course comprises of ten lectures to be delivered by DU VC Dinesh Singh to live audiences. Four colleges shall have interactivity features to enable two way learning. The course is designed to portray some of the great milestones in the modern history of India with perspectives from past and indications into future.”
The free course will be launched on January 30, 2015, and delivered weekly, and is open to audiences worldwide and shall carry a certificate (subject to approval from Academic council) for those who complete it.
Though the university has announced the upcoming course, teachers are miffed that they were not kept consulted before the announcement.
“Before bringing the matter to Academic Council , the decision has been taken and it has been announced publicly. How can a university announce a course without any department taking responsibility for the same ? Course has to come from some discipline,” said Abha Dev Habib, DU Executive Council member.
She further said “basically, DU is trying to please the government. Course is weighed on basis of its content, targeted students , value added to students and discipline. But the proposed course content is rather vague.”
The DU VC who has ignored the demand of students for special chance keeps rolling out such courses.
“The rights of the students to take special chances and pass their respective courses was withdrawn. This has caused much hardship to students, forcing them to pursue the matter in the High Court,” said a member of DU academic council.
