Students stuck under the Four Year Undergraduate Programme, can now heave a sigh of relief. Restructuring of courses for the 2013 batch is under way and guidelines for the same will be issued within two to three days.
‘We have pondered over restructuring courses for the 2013 batch. We are planning to scrap foundation courses and applied course papers. All subjects in Discipline Course 1 will be taught in the coming year. There will be no paper on research methodology for students enrolled under FYUP batch. In two or three days, final guidelines will be issued to the colleges,’ said a source.
In the meeting held on Tuesday between the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the varsity’s standing committee, some recommendations were made. ‘The structure should be of 14+2 concurrent papers or 12+2 concurrent papers. Apart from this, one compulsory paper on environmental science should be there. It further clarified that academic council or department committee of courses should be given freedom to modify them. This will allow students to receive the best academic content,’ said a source.
Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has also voiced its opinion on the delay of restructuring of the courses for the FYUP batch and held a protest in DU on Tuesday. DUTA further gave some broad parameters to be considered while restructuring the courses.
‘At least 14 papers from the main discipline / Honours course should be offered over the next two years. Departments may use the Honours papers prepared for DC-I or pre-FYUP Honours papers to prepare the course work for 2013 FYUP batch. At least two papers from disciplines other than the main discipline should be offered. In any case the number of papers per semester should not be more than what it was in the pre-FYUP courses. Optional papers, wherever present in the pre-FYUP Honours courses, should be restored,’ said Nandita Narain, president, DUTA.
