A Delhi police constable was killed while a home guard with Delhi police was critically injured on Friday when a truck that they were trying to stop ran over their bike. The incident took place in Bharat Nagar area of north-west district at around 3 am.
The deceased was identified as Naresh Kumar, 42, who belonged to Alwar in Rajasthan. He lived in Delhi with his wife and two children. While the other constable was identified as Shankar, a 25-year-old, who worked as a home guard with Delhi Police.
'A special barricading was created to catch some members of the notorious Mewati gang who were expected to pass through Bharat Nagar that night. But the speeding truck rammed it way past the barricade and continued without stopping. Naresh followed it on his bike and overtook the truck and tried to block it's way. But the driver of the truck, instead of stopping, revved up and tried to get past the bike, crashing the bike in the process', said a police official.
An alert message has been transmitted in the north-west district of the Capital. The police is on the lookout for a Tata truck with registration number 407.
The official added that both the victims were taken to Sunder Lal Hospital where Naresh was declared brought dead and Shankar underwent medical treatment. Later, Naresh's body was sent for post-mortem and Shankar was shifted to Babu Jagjeevan Ram Hospital.
The statement of Shankar was recorded for further investigation.
A case has been registered against the unidentified errant driver and the hunt is on to nab him.
