Chiranjeevi to visit Taj to take stock of Clean India project

Tourism minister K Chiranjeevi will be very soon visiting Taj Mahal in Agra, which has been adopted as one of the monuments by ONGC, as a part of the minister’s pet project –Clean India campaign. The ministry has roped in ONGC to maintain cleanliness and hygiene at six tourist destinations across India.

Sources in the ministry said that the Clean India campaign has been very close to the minster’s heart as he launched this project with Qutub Minar being adopted by Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) . According to the action plan finalised by the Ministry, ONGC has adopted six monuments – Taj Mahal at Agra, Ellora Caves and Elephanta Caves in Maharashtra, Red Fort in Delhi, Golkonda Fort in Hyderabad and Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu.

Apart from these, also in the pipeline are two more monuments which will be adopted by a leading hotel chain in India. While the ministry is also in talks with a global leading computer manufacturer for adopting one monument as a part of this initiative.

The minister, who has taken the initiative for keeping tourist destinations clean and environment-friendly, had met ONGC CMD S Vasudeva and sought the participation of the oil major in the campaign. Chiranjeevi also has extended the invitation to other PSUs as well as corporate giants to be a part of this initiative.
