Children join hands with cops

Hundreds of school children joined hands with the district police to work on the launch of good road behaviour campaign against rash driving on the 18th car-free day.

The day began with a cycle rally where the students cycled to Unitech Cyber Park on Netaji Subhash Road. Students not only cycled the entire path but also asked the commuters to start using public transport.

“During my commute to Delhi in the past few days I thought that odd-even formula was quite successful. Cycling and using public transport reduces pollution, traffic and also improves health.

“All children should cycle and also ask their parents to use cycles at least for short distances,” said Saurabh Singh, JCP (traffic), Gurgaon.

The cycle rally culminated in a street play by students of Amity International School to spread the message of road safety and a talk by health experts for corporates. Medical experts present at the cycle rally also talked about how cycling at least thrice a week can prevent many cardiovascular diseases.

Meanwhile, the city corporates are making an effort to reduce car usage in their offices. Corporates also announced that after shunning private cars, the companies are now trying to reduce their cab fleet by gradually replacing them with shuttle buses.

“We are beginning with substituting our cabs along two routes with buses. So 4-5 buses will replace about 25 cabs going to Dwarka and Sector 56 and will impact 200 employees,” said Nitin Seth, CEO at Fidelity Investments.
