Central Rly records 98.99% rise in earnings from ticketless travel

In its campaign to check ticketless travellers, the Central Railway (CR) has recorded 98.99% increase in ticket checking earnings for November 2015. Senior officers are closely monitoring revenue loss caused to the CR by ticketless travel and such other irregularities, railway officials said.

The CR conducted regular checks during November 2015, in which 2.7 lakh cases of ticketless/ irregular travel, including those of un-booked luggage, were detected against 1.65 lakh in November 2014, thereby, showing an increase of 63.51 per cent in the number of cases. 

The amount generated in November 2015 was Rs 14.49 crore against Rs 7.28 crore during the corresponding month last year, thus showing an increase of 98.99 per cent in earnings, officials said, adding that during the month, 706 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected and Rs 5.09 lakh was realised as recovery.

From April-November 2015, a total of 17.56 lakh such cases were detected against 14.76 lakh during the corresponding period last year, thus registering an increase of 18.99 per cent. Rs 90.42 crore was realised as fine compared with Rs 71.93 crore during the corresponding period last year, thus registering an increase of 25.70 per cent in earnings, CR officials said, while appealing to passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets.
