The governing body of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has liberalised the criterion of land for giving affiliation to schools in the metropolitan cities of Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai. Vineet Joshi, the chairman of CBSE, said ‘The land area required for the schools located in the city seeking affiliation has been decreased by 400 to 800 square metres, for schools located in the cosmopolitan city.’ Now, the land required for the senior secondary schools having four streams of Arts, Commerce, Science and Vocational studies will now be 3,200 square metres compared to existing 4,000 square metres. Senior secondary schools will now need 2,400 square metres.
