Maintaining a low profile for sometime, following the setback suffered at being ignored as the party’s chief ministerial candidate, city BJP president Vijay Goel is now lobbying hard to get tickets for his loyalists. Thereby he is forcing the party to postpone the declaration of candidates’ list till Diwali.
‘We have completed the surveys for assessing winnability of the prospective candidates and also held one-to-one discussion with district presidents and former district presidents of the party. We will declare a list of around 60 to 70 per cent candidates before Diwali,’ Nitin Gadkari had told Millennium Post on last Tuesday.
He further added that the party was going to call a meeting of state election committee to prepare a list of candidates, which would be presented in the meetings of the central election committee and central parliament board on Thursday evening. But, the list could not be prepared as Goel insisted on the inclusion of his loyalists, said sources.
According to sources, Goel has his own list of candidates in which he claims to identify three most ‘winnable’ candidates for each constituency after wide consultation with party workers and office bearers. ‘We have selected three candidates for each seat who were most sought after by party workers and office bearers in the concerned districts,’ said Goel defending his list of candidates a few days ago.
However, Delhi election in-charge Nitin Gadkari has prepared a separate list of based on his six-seven election surveys of winnability of prospective candidates, feedbacks from present and former district presidents, party workers, councillors and MLAs and senior leaders.
Sources said Gadkari is pushing for his list which is being supported by party’s chief ministerial candidate Harsh Vardhan and other senior leaders while Goel is lobbying for his list.
Both groups claim their list to be impartial and based on scientific social surveys and wide consultation among party cadres. Goel however has been blamed for preparing the list in an autocratic style without having formal meetings of state election committee.
