Kolkata: In preparation for the ‘Twenty-20 Cricket Match 2025’ scheduled to be held at Eden Gardens on January 22, the Kolkata Police have announced significant traffic regulations to ensure public safety and manage the crowd efficiently. The restrictions will be in effect from 4 pm until 1 am, or until the crowd disperses.
Several key roads around the stadium, including Kshudiram Bose Road (Auckland Road), North Brooke Avenue, and Gostha Pal Sarani (Kingsway), will be closed to all vehicles. The police have specified alternative routes for motorists to access BBD Bag.
Buses and minibuses will face diversions. Those heading to BBD Bag from south Kolkata will be diverted from R R Avenue to Government Place East, Old Court House Street, and BBD Bag, or from J L Nehru Road via Bentinck Street, Mission Row, Mangoe Lane and BBD Bag. Buses from north and east Kolkata will have to follow alternative routes from Central Avenue, S N Banerjee Road and Old Court House Street. Howrah-bound buses will also be diverted.
Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced on key roads, including Khudiram Bose Road, Rani Rashmoni Avenue and Old Court House Street, with no parking allowed near Eden Gardens. Taxi and private bus parking will also be prohibited in the area.
Additionally, goods vehicle movement will be temporarily restricted around Eden Gardens and the Maidan area, including portions of AJC Bose Road, Hospital Road, Queensway, Cathedral Road, Casuarina Avenue, and Lovers Lane. However, Posta-bound goods vehicles will still be permitted to travel along St. Georges Gate Road and Strand Road but will not be allowed to park, load, or unload in the affected areas during the restricted times.
On match day, the bus stand at Band Stand and Auckland Road will be relocated to Kiran Shankar Roy Road and Esplanade Row East, Central Bus Terminus.
