Kolkata: Metro services on the Blue Line (Dakshineswar-Kavi Subhash) were severely disrupted on Thursday afternoon following a suicide attempt at Kavi Nazrul station.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:28 pm when a woman jumped in front of an incoming Dum Dum-bound train on the Up platform. Metro officials immediately evacuated the station and cut off power to the third rail to enable a rescue operation.
Consequently, services were suspended between Kavi Subhash and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar (Tollygunge) stations for nearly an hour, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. During the disruption, truncated services operated between Tollygunge and Dakshineswar stations on both the Up and Down lines. Two trains travelled from Tollygunge towards Dakshineswar during this suspension period. Normal operations resumed at around 5:22 pm after the woman was successfully rescued.
Sources reported that although the woman survived the attempt, she sustained injuries and was taken to Baghajatin State General Hospital for treatment by the police from Patuli Police Station.
This marks the second suicide attempt on the metro tracks in January.
