Aam Aami Party (AAP) is yet to get any prominent Muslim face for its Delhi campaign for the upcoming assembly elections. The vacuum has been created after Shazia Ilmi left the party. Though, the party recently launched its minority cell, but none of the prominent Muslim faces has emerged as of now.
The AAP is working hard to make its presence among the minorities, specially in the Muslim community. ‘The Muslim community considered Arvind Kejriwal as the only hope for them. They believe that AAP will not involve in communal politics. The recent communal tension in Delhi’s Trilok Puri was also a big concern among them. Though they are satisfy to see that how AAP and its leader opposed the communal politics of BJP and exposed them’, said a AAP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, Irfanullah Khan, is the current Muslim face of party. He was earlier the national secretary and spokesperson of Janta Dal. However, party is aware that Khan is not having similar acceptance and charisma as Shazia had. ‘She was more active and prominent among the people. Not only Muslim but other communities also acknowledged her presences, which Khan is lacking at the moment’, said a party source.
The party source said it will work to bring back the founder member of AAP Shazia Ilmi in the party soon. ‘There are people in all the political parties who political career is going down or they have been sidelined by their respective parties, they are now eager to join AAP. The party should overlook such people and give chance to honest and clean image people from all section of the society’, said a source. Earlier on December 2013 former Samajwadi Party leader Kamal Farooqui met the then Delhi Chief Minister at his residence which sparked off speculation that he was also keen on being part of the activist-turned politician’s movement.
