The state government has planned to set up a new Krishi Bhavan at Salt Lake with an aim to bring all officials of the Agriculture Department under one roof.
The state government had mooted the plan around a year ago. The talks are on with the National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) in this connection.
At present, Agriculture Minister Purnendu Bose’s office is in Nabanna. Some important officials of the department also have their office in Nabanna and Writers’ Buildings.Â
With Krishi Bhavan coming up at Salt Lake, all officials of the department will be available in the same building.Â
The agriculture departed had earlier initiated a talk with another organisation to construct the building. But the organisation was not ready to take up the project. Thus the department had approached NBCC. It may be mentioned that at present different departments of the state government are situated in Aranya Bhavan, Paribesh Bhavan and Purta Bhavan at Salt Lake.
Meanwhile, Labour Department will be shifted to the New Secretariat soon. At present the Labour Department is situated on the second floor of East India House on Abdul Hamid Street.Â
Sources said the work has been started at New Secretariat to shift the Labour Department and the work is expected to be complete within one or two months.Â
It may be mentioned that the erstwhile Housing Minister Gautam Deb gave away 1 acre land opposite Rabindra Tirtha in Rajarhat to construct a building to house Labour Department. But later the proposal was scraped by the present government.Â
