Northern Rlys inks 5-yr energy saving deal with Energy Efficiency Services

NEW DELHI: As a noteworthy initiative on the occasion of National Energy Conservation day, Electrical officers of Railways' Production Units and Workshops signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd.(EESL), a Joint Venture Undertaking, under Ministry of Power, Govt. of India for retro-fitment of low power consumption devices in lieu of high power consumption gadget and appliances as necessary on Northern Railway besides necessary maintenance and consultancy services by EESL for a five-year period.
The MoU was signed at Northern Railway Headquarters office, Baroda House, New Delhi in the presence of Vishwesh Chaube, General Manager, Northern Railway and SK Thakur, General Manager, EESL on Friday. Manju Gupta, Addl General Manager, Northern Railway, Rajesh Tiwari, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, Northern Railway, Sr Divisional Electrical Engineers of Delhi, Moradabad, Lucknow, Firozpur and Ambala, Officials of EESL and Northern Railway were present on the occasion.
Through this agreement, the Railway envisages saving around 14 million units of energy which would result in a positive spin-off in noteworthy reduction of 12000 kg of CO2 emissions with a corresponding saving of Rs 10 crore annually on energy expenditure. EESL shall provide maintenance and consultancy services for the fittings replaced during the tenure of the agreement.
