18 stations in Kalka-Shimla hill railways covered with free wi-fi
New Delhi: Passengers travelling on the Unesco declared world heritage Kalka-Shimla section will now be able to avail free Wi-Fi facility on all stations.
The northern railways announced on Thursday that 15 stations on the Kalka-Shimla hill railways, a Unesco world heritage site, have been turned into free wi-fi zones. Earlier, the facility was available only at three stations – Kalka, Shimla and Solan in this section. Now, the wi-fi facility is available at all the stations coming under the hill railway which include Barog, Dharampur Himachal, Gumman, Koti, Kumarhatti Dagshai, Sonwara, Taksal, Kandaghat, Salogra, Knoh, Kathleghat, Shoghi, Tara Devi, Jutogh and Summerhill.
Officials said the broadband internet connectivity has been made live with 'RailWire' Wi-Fi by RailTel, which is a Mini Ratna CPSU under the Ministry of Railways. RailTel has successfully provided high speed Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) at 746 stations across India catering to more than 08 million users per month. The PSU provides one of the largest and fastest public Wi-Fi networks of the world. Designed to offer users the best Internet experience, RailWire Wi-Fi is available to any user who has a smartphone with working mobile connection. Explaining the modalities of how to use the free RailWire Wi-Fi facility at the stations, Puneet Chawla, CMD/RailTel said that the users have to switch on the Wi-Fi mode in the smartphone and select the RailWire Wi-Fi network.
