Skill devp centres to boost poultry production
Kolkata: State technical Education, Training and Skill Development minister Purnendu Bose said government would soon set up training centres for people working in poultries across the state to develop their skills for increased production.
On Tuesday, during 7th Kolkata International Poultry Fair (KIPF) organised jointly by state Animal Resource Development (ARD) department and West Bengal Poultry Federation (WBPF), Bose said at present, the poultry yield in the state was not sufficient.
The state government is taking all possible steps to increase egg production.
According to Bose, two skill development centres have been already completed. Another will come up at Bankura for which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between state government and West Bengal Poultry Federation.
He assured that his department would extend helping hands to poultry workers to develop their skills.
"I am sure soon we will be able to produce sufficient quantity of eggs which would cater the need of our state. For that we have to increase poultry feed production such as corn and other cereals," said Bose.
Apart from Bose, state Animal Resource Development, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Textiles minister Swapan Debnath said though the state was deficit in producing eggs, meat production in the state was sufficient to meet the needs of the people across the state.
Debnath said: "We are self-sufficient in producing
meat.
The state government is providing incentives and other facilities to poultry businesspersons through West Bengal Incentive Scheme 2017.
A member of WBPF said incentives and other facilities were also been provided to self-help groups and other small groups who are showing willingness to run a poultry
firm."
Madan Mohan Maity, the general secretary of WBPF, requested the state government to reduce the per unit electricity cost as it would help to grow the poultry sector across the state. He further informed last year the growth rate of broiler chicken production increased by 500 percent.
"Our assumption is that within a few years we will have sufficient poultry production."
