Govt to implement social security scheme for journalists soon
Kolkata: The Bengal government is soon going to implement 'West Bengal Journalists' Social Security Scheme, 2019', under which the government would provide financial assistance to the journalists.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had earlier announced that the state government would provide Rs 10,000 per month to a journalist up to two years, if he/she loses his/her job, under the social security scheme. In case a journalist dies in an accident, the Mamata Banerjee government would give a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to his/her family members and Rs 50,000 in case of injuries caused by accidents. However, the applicants will have to be below the age of 60.
A screening committee under the Information and Cultural Affairs department will examine the candidature. Those who have been working with any media house for the past 5 years may be eligible for the scheme. The state Labour department will soon publish a notification in this regard.
