Firhad Hakim to inaugurate 4th edition of New Town Book Fair on January 4

Kolkata: Firhad Hakim, State Urban Development Minister will inaugurate New Town Book Fair on January 4, 2018. The 4th Edition of the Fair will be organised at the New Town Mela ground, and will continue till January 14.
There will be one hundred book stalls along with stalls on food and those to display handicraft materials. The theme of the Book fair is '70 years of Indian Independence'. There will be debates, discussions and seminars on the theme.
The special attraction will be a session titled 'Golpo Dadur Ashor', with renowned publisher Sabitendra Nath Roy of Mitra Ghosh. Attempts have been made to bring more books for the young people with a view to develop their reading habit. There will be books for the children in Bengali. The sole purpose will be to help children learn vernacular at an early age.
A heavy turnout is expected at the fair and Housing Infrastructure Corporation (HIDCO) and New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) have made special arrangements to ensure the visitors enjoy their stay at the fair ground. There will be cultural shows in the evening every day. 2nd Edition of National Poetry Festival will be held on January 5 at the fair ground. Eminent poets including Nabanita Deb Sen, Subodh Sarkar, Satyam Roychoudhury, Managing Director, Techno India Group, Yousuke Tanaka of Japan will be present at the National Poetry Festival. Debasish Sen, Chairman, HIDCO and Yogen Choudhury, eminent artist and Trinamul Rajya Sabha MP will be present at the inaugural function.Poet Manjubash Mitra, Pranab Kumar Mukhopadhyay and Yousuke Tanaka will be felicitated at the Poetry Festival.
