Firhad Hakim to inaugurate 1st-ever corporate cycling championship

Firhad Hakim, minister for Urban Development, will inaugurate the first-ever corporate cycling championship at Sector V on Sunday.
The championship will be hosted by Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA). Around 300 participants including women will take part in the cycling championship. The sole purpose is to create awareness for setting up a cleaner and greener Sector V, Debashis Sen, chairman, NDITA said.
Corporate cycling has become quite popular in Hyderabad and Bangalore where hundreds of IT professionals take part in long distance cycling every Saturday and Sunday. Cycling helps to burn calories and keep the physique in shape.
There will be both fast and slow cycling in the championship. Each IT company has recommended three employees who will participate in the event. There will be 12 groups and the championship will be conducted by the Cycle Federation of India. A route has been prepared for the race. There will be prizes for the first, second and third contestants. There will be a 50m track where slow cycling will be held.
It may be mentioned that Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has taken several measures to popularise cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transport in New Town.
A separate track for cyclists will also be built. New Town witnesses cycling activities quite often and many from the city and neighbouring districts gather at Eco Park on Sundays to do long distance cycling.
