Final decision on Mausam Noor, Dinesh Bajaj's nominations today
Kolkata: The final decision on the acceptance or rejection of the Rajya Sabha nominations of Mausam Noor and Dinesh Bajaj will be taken on Tuesday.
The Left Front on Monday submitted an affidavit before the Assembly secretary, who is the returning officer, pointing out discrepancies in the nominations filed by the two candidates. The scrutiny for the nominations was held on Monday.
Mausam Noor was among the four leaders whom Trinamool Congress had nominated as their candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls, while former TMC MLA from Jorasanko Assembly constituency Dinesh Bajaj had submitted his nomination as an Independent Candidate on March 13 for the fifth seat in the Rajya Sabha elections. TMC has agreed to support Bajaj and give their excess votes to him.
The Left Front alleged that Noor had not submitted the criminal case that is pending against her during the nomination and thus has flouted the rules of nomination filing. They also alleged that she had not used her middle name Benazir in her nomination papers.
Noor claimed that she will include the criminal case against her in the nomination by Tuesday and argued that her middle name Benazir is not mentioned in her voter card.
In case of Bajaj, the Left alleged that the former has not submitted his affidavit in the proper format. Bajaj said that his affidavit was not notarized, so he did the needful and submitted a fresh nomination on Monday. Nominations of Noor and Bajaj will be scrutinised on Tuesday and the final decision will be taken by 1 pm.
There were no objections raised against the nominations filed by TMC candidates
Arpita Ghosh, Dinesh Trivedi and Subrata Bakshi and CPI(M)-Congress joint candidate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya.
The Rajya Sabha election is scheduled to be held on March 26. According to political analysts, the fight will become tough for Bhattacharya, with Bajaj filing nomination for the fifth seat as an Independent Candidate.
