DRI seizes over 12 kg gold in Kolkata, Siliguri
Darjeeling: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized more than 12.5 kg of gold valued at Rs 4.4 crore in two back-to-back cases in Kolkata and Siliguri in the past 24 hours. Seven persons have been arrested in connection with the two cases.
Three persons were intercepted and arrested at Kaikhali on VIP Road from a WBTC bus that was travelling from Bagdah to Howrah from Bongaon. Around 6.5 kg gold was recovered from their possession. The gold was concealed in special "waist belts" worn by the three, namely Sujit Rakshit, Sanjib Rakshit and Milan Swarnakar.
In the other incident, the DRI arrested four persons including a woman from Saraighat Express from the NJP station. They were travelling from Guwahati to Howrah. 36 pieces of gold of foreign origin weighing 6 kg were seized. Bapi Bairagi, Notun Boiragi, Ashim Singha and Kumkum Singha were produced on Saturday at the ACJM Court in Siliguri.
