Aroop Biswas inaugurates bridge over Hatania-Doania river
Kolkata: Aroop Biswas, the state Public Works Department (PWD) minister, inaugurated the much-awaited bridge over Hatania-Doania river connecting Namkhana with Bakkhali in South 24-Parganas on Thursday.
People of vast areas from Namkhana to Bakkhali breathed a sigh of relief at the opening of the bridge. Though Bakkhali and its neighbourhood provide a real feast for the eyes, tourists (both domestic and foreign) used to avoid the area because of the delay that is caused in crossing the river. To reach Bakkhali, the tourists had to cross Hatania-Doania river by launch while vehicles were ferried by the barges. Though two barges are deployed, the tourists had to wait for hours together during the festive seasons. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took the initiative to construct the much-awaited bridge. From Friday, visitors will be able to reach Bakkhali by road from Kolkata. They will also be able to visit Frasergunj, Henry Island and Jambudweep.
