Gurgaon Personal Rapid Transit on fast track

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has issued directions that all formalities for the start of work on the Personal Rapid Transit [PRT] transport service project in Gurgaon should be completed within three months.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a meeting convened at Chandigarh on Tuesday on the PRT service in Gurgaon. The Ultra-Fairwood Holdings gave a detailed presentation on the proposed project at the meeting.
Hooda directed the officers to explore all possibilities for starting work on the project, and said Rajiv Arora, Managing Director of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation [HSIIDC], would be the nodal officer of the project.
The chief minister told the company to start work on the first and second phase of the project together. It should be completed in two-and-a-half years. Hooda said there should a regulatory body to monitor the project, which would also keep an eye on the security aspects.
Ranbir Saran Das of Fairwood Holdings told the chief minister that the proposed project in Gurgaon would be completed in three phases under which there would be 143 stations. It would be 105-km long and pass through National Highway-8, Metro Station and IFFCO Chowk.
The proposed fare of this service would be about Rs 6 per km, which is half the fare of a taxi, and less than the fare charged by an auto-rickshaw. The company can provide service to 6.23 lakh passengers daily through PRT. The construction work would be assessed by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and Delhi.
Das said that assistance of seven government agencies would be sought for the purpose, including the Municipal Corporation, Gurgaon, HSIIDC, Haryana State Urban Development Authority, Urban Local Bodies, National Highways Authority, Public Works [Building and Roads], Power and Agriculture department.
He said the company is also working on Personal Rapid Transit [PRT] transport service project in Amritsar, Punjab. Apart from this, the project was also being started at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
The company is also providing service in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
Fairwood Company is an associated company of Ultra Global Company of England and this project is a joint venture between the two groups. Ultra Global is working on the PRT service for the last 17 years.
Principal Secretary to chief minister, Chhatar Singh, Additional Principal Secretary KK Khandelwal, Deputy Principal Secretary RS Doon, Principal OSD MS Chopra and Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretaries of various departments were also present at the meeting.
