Woman kills self in hospital after meeting ailing mother

New Delhi: A 26-year-old woman committed suicide inside a private hospital in Dwarka's Bindapur area, Delhi Police said on Monday

The woman, identified as Jyoti, used to visit her mother who is a patient at the hospital, police added.

Sources said the victim's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room located on the second floor of the hospital.

On Sunday night, Jyoti had eaten dinner at the hospital and decided to stay with her ailing mother.

Around 9.15 am on Monday, police received a PCR call by the hospital authorities, informing them about the woman killing herself.

Immediately, a police team reached the hospital and took the woman's body down.

Staff at the hospital were questioned, but no eyewitnesses came forward, police said on Monday.

According to a senior police official, the victim had been staying with her family at E-12 block of Vijay Vihar in Rohini district.

Around two years ago, Jyoti had got married to a resident of west Delhi's Hastsal.

However, she used to have problems with her in-laws, who reportedly never accepted her into their household and there were frequent fights, police said.

"For the last five-six months, Jyoti had been living with her parents after the fights became unbearable. A few days ago, her mother had fallen ill and was admitted to the hospital and Jyoti was looking after her," said a police officer.
