SDMC to build 5-tonne biogas waste to energy plant
New Delhi: Keeping with its aim to address waste accumulation, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday entered into an agreement with the Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) to install a 5-tonne biogas waste to energy plant at the municipality's Waste to Wonder Park in Sarai Kale Khan.
SDMC Mayor Sunita Kangra said that the proposed plant will produce 700 cubic metres of Bio-Gas, which can generate around 1,400 units of electricity per day along with 500-600 kgs of organic manure.
"The by-product of the plant will be used by SDMC in its parks as the organic manure," she said.
SDMC Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti said that the SPMCIL has sanctioned an amount of Rs 2.94 crore for the project under their corporate social responsibility scheme and that the project includes 5-year maintenance and running cost.
