In 2018, 1,300 held for crimes against women

New Delhi: With cases of rape, molestation and eve-teasing being reported regularly across the Capital, the arrests of people involved in these cases has also increased proportionaltely; more than 1,300 persons have been arrested in the cases of crimes against women this year, according to Delhi Police.
Delhi Police data accessed by Millennium Post, till April 15, states that more than 500 accused were arrested on rape charges, whereas over 700 persons were nabbed under the charges of molestation and over 120 persons were arrested for eve-teasing.
The arrests also included persons who have been accused of rape, molestation and eve-teasing with minors.
The police data claimed that over 3,000 persons were arrested for their involvement in rape cases between January 2016 and August 2017, while more than 6,000 people were arrested for molestation.
Recent data by Delhi Police claimed that more than 1,600 cases of crime against women were registered with them between January and April this year.
This year's data, recorded till April 15, states that 578 rape cases have been reported, while 883 cases of molestation have been registered in the Capital. Moreover, Delhi Police registered 182 cases of eve-teasing.
The law enforcement agency has also tightened the noose on criminals, as the data claimed that 1,123 of these cases have been solved.
"460 rape cases have been solved, whereas 561 cases of molestation and 102 cases of eve-teasing have also been worked out," states the data.
Recently, women police from South District went undercover to bus stations and marketplaces to catch the eve-teasers red-handed.
In Shahdara district, women police personnel on scooties and bikes patrolled areas nearby school and colleges, in order to provide them a safe environment.
The patrolling has started to stop the harassment of girls. If they are being abused inside and outside the school, they can approach the women police personnel and tell them their problems so that they can get a help.
The POCSO e-Box of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has received more than 50 cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Data accessed by Millennium Post contains details from August 26, 2016 to December 8, 2017. There were 59 complaints registered under POCSO Act and 46 cases were disposed of.
