Four injured in Jharoda Kalan house collapse
NEW DELHI: Four people were injured after the roof of a house collapsed on them while they were asleep in Delhi's Jharoda Kalan on Monday.
A Delhi fire official said that the injured have been identified as Vipin (25), Rajan Kumar (20), Kundan (18) and Vikas (18) have been admitted to a hospital.
A senior fire official said they received a call about the collapse at 6 am, after which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The house was old, had a ground floor with four rooms.
The roof of the room where the victims were sleeping collapsed, the official said.
One of the victims suffered head injuries, another had his left leg fractured. The other two men had minor injuries and were discharged after first-aid, the official added.
The fire team has to go slow with the rescue operation as the men were buried inside the debris.
One by one the fire team started rescuing the injured along with the locals. They were immediately rushed to the hospital.
However, two of them were critical with grievous injuries and the other two received minor injuries.
It has been heavily raining in Delhi for the past some days and it is also believed that the consistent rain would have further deteriorated the state of the roof and hence it would have collapsed. However, an enquiry is being conducted in the collapse.
"It was an old building having ground floor only. Our team took the injured to the hospital without wasting time," said Atul Garg, Chief Fire Officer.
Parts of Delhi and NCR witnessed three rainy days in succession that is from August 16 to 18.
The Delhi government has already sounded a flood alert for the city and asked people in low-lying areas to vacate their place as the water level neared warning level in the Yamuna river.
