Gurugram: The Haryana government recently took a major decision to expand the historic Civil Hospital located in Sadar Bazaar area of Gurugram.
However, a major challenge for the state government is to accommodate the 900 students of the 100-year-old-government school, located near the hospital.
In order to increase the capacity of patient beds, a new 100-bed hospital will be constructed on the area where the government school is presently located.
The coming up of the new structure will, however, result in the government school which was constructed in 1899 to be razed.
Senior teachers and retired government officials though have welcomed government's move to improve the state of public health care system in the district. However, some of them expressed their reservation over moving of the government school.
"There is no denying the fact that the state of public health care system is inadequate and needs to be enhanced. The Civil hospital which is more than 40 years old has a weak building structure and not able to manage the increased load. This is however unacceptable that in order to enhance one public institution they are destroying the other," said a government teacher who requested for anonymity.
"There is also another government hospital which is there in Sector-10 which is more than 10 years old but the government has not increased the amount of services there," the teacher added. After construction of the 100-bedded hospital, there are plans to bring down the Civil hospital and construct a new building over there.
