DUTA meeting with varsity admin sees some breakthrough
New Delhi: The deadlock between the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) and the university administration showed signs of resolution on Saturday evening, after a meeting between the varsity Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi and DUTA bearers over several contentious issues.
Meanwhile, the Association has called for an Emergency DUTA Executive on Monday, which will be followed by a General Body Meeting (GBM) on the same afternoon, to review the current situation and decide on the future course of action.
The boycott of examination paper evaluation was undertaken by the varsity teachers will last a day more till Monday.
In a statement, the Association said that the V-C finally took a view of the crisis precipitated by the gazette notification by the University Grants Commission March 5, 2016, on the roster, and that he assured the Association that the University will try to get all working ad-hoc faculty continued in the new session, subject to the impending Supreme Court hearing of July 2, 2018.
"On the counting of past services, the V-C has agreed to allow a five-member DUTA delegation to represent its position before the University Committee that is working on the Report related to the matter," Rajiv Ray, president DUTA said.
He added that on the issue of pension, the DUTA delegation was informed that the financial estimates for the "option" categories has been compiled and is being processed.
"It will be forwarded to the UGC and the Ministry of Human Resource Development soon," Ray added.
The DUTA statement further said that the V-C made an emotional appeal to the Association to lift the evaluation boycott in the interest of students.
The Association on Friday had said that the varsity had called police to prevent teachers from campaigning to gather support for their evaluation boycott, even as two professors began a sit-in outside the V-C's office.
The staff association of 27 colleges too had written to DUTA demanding withdrawal of the boycott, which has been in place since May 9.
The evaluation boycott was called against the UGC roster notification, autonomous status, and displacement of ad-hoc teachers etc.
