New Delhi: Delhi Metro has begun beautification work at the Moti Bagh Metro Station on the upcoming Pink Line (Shiv Vihar-Majlis Park) with traditional Indian mesh-work and artworks on the station facade, it said on Wednesday.
"Abstract artworks are being installed on the facades of the metro station facing Ring Road and an adjacent flyover. The artworks are conveying the message of greenery and preservation of environment.
"A specialised team of artists has been roped in to execute the work," Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said in a statement.
It is decorating the piers of the station with the mesh-work, which will be backlit and "will also have night glow vinyl for better aesthetic look and visibility during the night".
The decoration work is scheduled to be finished in a week's time.
Children from a nearby girls school are also contributing to the exercise by decorating a number of Metro corridors near the station, it said.
The decorations will be themed around the spirit of education, character building, love of life and nature and Indian ideals, it added.
Stations on the recently-inaugurated Botanical Garden-Kalindi Kunj section of the Magenta Line (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden) are also adorned with similar artworks depicting "India's rich culture and heritage", the public transporter said.
